Retiring to Port Dover

Port Dover's unspoiled small-town lifestyle has become a popular choice for retirees as more and more people use their house as part of their retirement strategy. Downsizing from the higher priced housing markets of the large cities to the more affordable housing in smaller communities, not only lowers monthly expenses, but frees up equity.

Located on the shore of Lake Erie, Port Dover offers casual and fine dining, quaint shopping, live theatre, two marinas, service clubs and several beauty/hair/nail salons. Cycling and walking trails, boating, tennis, fishing, golf and pickleball in the town appeal to the active retiree. Sandy beaches, parks, farmers market, a historical pier and plenty of festivals add to the enjoyment of all.  Other amenities include service clubs, churches and a medical centre. A ten minute drive to Simcoe offers more shopping, a movie theatre, Norfolk General Hospital and many other conveniences.

Within a half hour drive from Port Dover discover several wineries, several golf courses, more sandy beaches and the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve Trails - a bird watcher's paradise.

Where to start

Downsizing from a family home to a smaller more manageable space can both physically exhausting and emotionally draining. It is surprising to realize how many personal items we accumulate and how attached we become to our possessions. The necessity to sort and dispose of some of these possessions can be very daunting but not everything can, nor should, be moved to your new home. Keeping the perspective of 'the best things in life are not things'  can help. A life full of possessions pales in comparison to a life full of family and friends. We can help, ask us how!
