On the shore of Lake Erie
Port Dover offers a relaxed lifestyle, and a strong sense of community with plenty of opportunities for outdoor activity; ideal for raising children or enjoying a peaceful retirement.
For the active resident, Port Dover features two marinas, a golf course, walking and cycling trails, tennis courts, play parks, dog park, skateboard park, gym, indoor and outdoor rinks, and of course a sandy beach for swimming. Fish off the pier or simply take in the pleasure of the outdoors; exploring the soothing sounds and sights of nature at Silver Lake Park (Port Dover's other lake). Silver Lake is also home to the Farmers Market and the start of the Lynn Valley Trail; an 8 km trail connecting Simcoe and Port Dover through a part of the Carolinian forest region, over original trestle bridges with many types of plants and wildlife that can be enjoyed by all. Benches and picnic tables line the trail, making it a comfortable and safe area for walking, hiking, cycling or nature study.
A vibrant downtown offers quaint shops and charming boutiques selling clothing, shoes, hand made soaps, gourmet cheese, fresh bread, and sweet treats. Cafes, dozens of restaurants, a grocery store, hardware store, medical centre, pharmacies, hair and nail salons, banks, churches, service clubs and even a live theatre can all be found in Port Dover. The Senior Centre offers indoor pickleball, line dancing, chair yoga, fitness classes, walking club, along with bridge, canasta, euchre and social events including dances.
There are two primary schools including a French immersion programme in Port Dover, and the secondary schools are just 15 minutes away in Simcoe. Simcoe also has a full service hospital, movie theatre and the larger chain stores such as Superstore, Sobeys, Walmart, Winners, Rona, Canadian Tire, etc.
The beach boasts a sandy shoreline, warm water with gentle waves, a picturesque view of the lake, and even real palm trees. The beach features accessibility mats for people using wheelchairs or strollers. The historic pier is the place to be for fishing, taking a scenic stroll or watching the fishing tugs return with their daily catch.

Events
Port Dover's traditional Canada Day celebrations are organised and sponsored by the Lions Club, and is a vibrant and community-driven day. Events include the Kinsmen Soap Box Derby where young participants race down a hill, followed by a boat parade in the harbour and a Dog Show with various categories. The highlight of the day is the Callithumpian Parade, drawing large crowds to view the colourful floats and marching bands. People gather at Silver Lake Park in the evening for live music, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display at dusk.
Silver Lake Park is also home to The Port Dover Lions Club Show & Shine event every Monday night from May to September. Classic car and bike enthusiasts can showcase their vehicles from 4:00 PM until dusk, enjoying music and food.
Powell Park on Main St, hosts several events throughout the summer. Every Sunday in July and August, the people of Port Dover can enjoy the music at Powell Park Summer Music Series (6:30pm to 8:30pm). A different performer every week, free of charge. BYOLC (bring your own lawn chair).
On the third weekend of August, Port Dover hosts their Summer Festival. Vendors set up their booths in Powell Park, selling crafts, art, clothing, leather goods, food and books.
Powell Park is also the location of Port Dover Corvette Fever, complete with prizes and awards. A great atmosphere with plenty of impressive cars and friendly faces.
Perhaps Port Dover’s most well-known event is Friday the 13th. Thousands of bikers visit Port Dover, parking their motorcycles up and down St. Andrew and St. George Streets. Vendors, selling leather goods, gadgets and more, line Main Street where many gather to people-watch, grab a bite or listen to the live music at the entertainment tents set up in town for the event.
Enjoy a full day of events at ChristmasFest, including a cookie walk in the morning, crafts and a scavenger hunts for kids. Santa and Mrs. Claus are greeted by all at the pier as they arrive by fishing tug, followed by a parade and an opportunity to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Lighthouse Theatre for photos and face painting.
New Years day invites all to brave the frigid temperatures of Lake Erie as part of the annual Port Dover Polar Bear Dip. A yearly event!

Clubs
The Port Dover Lions Club has been serving the community since 1938 and their projects have contributed to the development of the town. Some of their projects include Lakewood Elementary School, Port Dover Lions Community Center, Port Dover Area Arena, Medical Center building (now vacant), modern tennis courts, concrete skateboard facility, ball hockey rink, Kiddies Play Parks, Silver Lake Park and the Harry Misner Memorial Ball Park. https://portdoverlions.ca/history/
The Kinsmen Club of Port Dover is a dedicated and passionate club built around the community to serve through hosting and sponsoring of events and community projects.
